Yesterday, August 26, 2026, Central America recorded a regular seismic activity of low and moderate intensity, concentrated mainly in the border region of Panama and Costa Rica, as well as in Guatemala.
The list of the main earthquakes reported by the scientific institutions of the region is detailed below:
🇵🇦 🇨🇷 Border Panama - Costa Rica (IGC-UP and RSN report)
The bordering area and the southern Burica Peninsula concentrated the most events due to local failures and tectonic fracture zones:

    Mag. 3.0 | 07:29 AM | Epicenter in the border region, 14 km southwest of Volcano, Chiriqui (Depth: 16 km).
    Mag. 2.6 | 02:53 AM | Epicenter on the Costa Rican side of the border, 116 km northwest of Río Sereno, Chiriquí (Depth: 20 km).
    Mag. 1.6 | 01:33 AM | Very shallow epicenter on the border line, 0 km from Paso Canoas, Chiriquí (Depth: 74 km).
    Mag. 2.5 | 12:55 AM | Epicenter in the Panama Fracture Zone (Pacific Ocean), with shallow depth.

🇵🇦 Panama - Central Region (Report Institute of Geosciences UP)

    Mag. 2.8 | 07:05 AM | Epicenter in the Province of Los Santos, 16 km northeast of Las Tablas, in the waters of the Gulf of Panama (Depth: 17 km).
    Mag. 2.7 | 01:29 AM | Epicenter in the Province of Los Santos, 5 km north of Las Tablas (Depth: 43 km).

🇬🇹 Guatemala (Insivumeh Report)
The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology recorded habitual seismicity on its shores:

    Mag. 3.7 | 05:41 AM | Epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Escuintla (Depth: 22 km).
    Mag. 3.5 | 01:14 AM | Epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Retalhuleu (Depth: 31 km).

🇸🇻 El Salvador (MARN Report)

    The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources did not report major earthquakes at magnitude 3.0 on dry land, recording only minor instrumental microsismicity in its internal volcanic faults and coastal areas.
